Dog Food Video – So You Believe They REALLY Care About Your Dog?

Dog Food Video – Do You Believe They Really Care About Your Dog?

Firstly – let me introduce myself, I’m an Author who has written several Ebooks, on topics as varied as Cheese-making, Sausage-making, BBQ and more!

My name is Steve Gaskin and I’m also a Doglover! Now – let me state clearly and up front – I am very much, ANTI most commercial dog food!

I sincerely believe that MOST commercial dog food (there are exceptions) is pretty poor quality, and recent and past stories of dog food contamination, will support those claims!

I really do care about dogs – hence the name Dogloverstoolbox, lets see if I can’t get your dog even just a temporary reprieve from a life sentence of what really amounts to trash in a can or tasteless kibble made from waste products?

What if – you just gave your pooch a couple of days a week where you “let him off”?

And since you like convenience – I’ll make it just about as easy as opening a can?

Try this – purchase a couple of the big home brand cans of salmon, tuna or mackerel from the supermarket. If you have access to a catering supply store, you’ll be able to get bigger cans, REALLY cheap and might even find sardines in tomato sauce in large cans. Most dogs LOVE canned fish and there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s an excellent source of protein, vitamins and loaded with minerals – AND there are no preservatives, its simply cooked in the can!

Now also pick up a couple of (500g/1 pound) packets of rice, one white and one brown! Follow the microwave directions on the packets and cook enough rice for 2 days (generally 1/2 cup each white and brown for medium sized dogs) this will only be 1 serve/day for large dogs and might last 3 or 4 days in the fridge for the little guys.

Allow the rice to cool – then open the can of tuna, salmon or mackerel, drain off the brine or oil and mix with the rice, toss in some cooked chopped spinach too if you have it? Feed that to your dog a couple of days a week – he or she will love you for it!

Dog Food Video – STILL Believe They REALLY Care About Your Dog??

MAN – some people take some convincing!

I’ll spell it out LOUD and CLEAR – the companies that make Dog Food generally are interested in one thing and one thing ONLY – and it looks like this – $$$$$.

The contaminated dog food that resulted in the dog food recall last year in the USA – highlights that fact! Chinese (read that as REALLY CHEAP) wheat gluten had been contaminated with melamine, a type of plastic! This wheat gluten had been “doctored” with this ingredient to artificially boost the protein content! The contaminated dog food made with this ingredient KILLED a large number of dogs and made an even greater number still, very sick!

If the big corporations weren’t so focussed on PROFIT and used QUALITY ingredients instead, the dog food contamination would not have occurred! Dogs do not need gluten – in ANY SHAPE OR FORM! It was added to boost their protein levels cheaply!

Point is – if they used REAL MEAT as the most significant ingredient in their food – which is what dogs really NEED; they would not have sought after cheap Chinese wheat gluten!

SOLUTION – Feed your dog REAL Quality Food!

Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Breed Defect – Short-toes!

Staffordshire Bull Terrier - Short-toes Breed Defect

Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Short Toes

The Short-toes defect is called Brachydactylia and occurs relatively frequently in Staffordshire Bull Terriers! It is genetic – however not all offspring are always affected. It is more likely if both parents have the defective gene – but even then is a bit like a lottery in that the number of affected pups is unpredictable.

The defect affected our first ever, pedigreed Stafford (who we love to bits) and before we became more familiar with the breed and breeding and what to look for. We are always alert to the problem now and have been able to advise many others.

We did breed from our original bitch and from 2 litters of 7 pups; only 1 was affected, but was stillborn. Once you know what to look for; the short toed pup can be spotted as early as birth, and becomes more noticeable the older the dog becomes.

Our bitch was sold to us by a registered breeder, who had been recommended by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club —so quite obviously buyers need to beware?

We recently heard a story of a breeder who knowingly sold a dog to an inexperienced person and months later when they spotted the defect he then offered to buy the dog back – and then promptly re-advertised it without mentioning the problem!

In our 5 years of breeding we have come across at least 5 instances of the short toe defect and this from just one Australian state!

How does Short Toes Affect You or Your Dog?

Short toes is more of an aesthetic problem than anything else. Our bitch has an unusual gait, due to her toes, wide chest and muscular build; but we would not swap her for anything.

It is not described as a fault for the breed in the standard—however the defect IS instantly recognizable by judges—and dogs with short toes do not fare anywhere near as well in the show ring.

We absolutely love Staffordshire’s — so the thought of any dog being passed over because of its toes, causes us concern. If you are looking for a Staffordshire as a pet and companion only it is not likely to be a problem. However, if you are planning to show your dog in the ring you would do well to consider a dog that does not have the fault.

Watch the Google video below now:

To the best of our knowledge —there is no other information available on this topic; it is our hope that this article may help to increase awareness of the problem and perhaps lead to more concerted efforts to eliminate it from the breed.

Video – Staffordshire Bull Terrier – the Real Story

A top little YouTube video that shows the passion that Staffordshire owners have for their dogs – and counters the bad press that the breed always seems to get.
